Now it's Summer , and the Violens are here with `True'. The emphasis on this album is on tunes with a bit more restrained sound as compared to `Amoral'; all tracks are infused with a dreamy, reverb-heavy sound that can be mellow, soothing in a melancholy, even depressive way, but never insipid/5(7).

There’s a time and a place for this kind of thing. And if recent experience is anything to go by it’s here and it’s now. This year has seen all sorts of variations on dreamy, gauzy, dream-pop records, followed by endless passages referencing Slowdive and The Cocteau Twins and poking through the gables in the cathedrals of sound.. It isn’t an unpleasant phenomenon.

The album is full of songs that take up residence in your head, reaching far beyond the surface and digging in deep. Their previous album almost had the same effect, but it was more on a song-by-song basis. True works as a whole and creates an unbroken mood and feel that is both nocturnal and strangely uplifting.
